What Causes Excessive Salivation While Suffering From Liver Cirrhosis?
Hello, My father is 69 years old, he was diagnosed with cirrhosis recently and he says that all of the sudden his mouth fills up with saliva and feels like he wants to throw up which he doesn’t do, it has happened a few times. Does it have to do with his liver problem?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Unfortunately the information you've provided is not adequate to answer your question with certainty. Cirrhosis may cause nausea and vomiting for various reasons. I'm going to list some examples: - electrolyte disorders - spontaneous bacterial peritonitis - gastrointestinal bleeding - renal problems (hepatorenal syndrome) etc
If cirrhosis is compensated (well controlled without complications) then the patient is not supposed to have many problems related to it. His doctor can examine him clinically and order blood tests to evaluate his condition. Without this information it's not possible to say if it's his liver or not!
I hope you find my comments helpful!
Kind Regards!
