What Causes Excessive Phlegm That Leads To Indigestion?

i need an answer to excess phlegm in my throat over the last few years that makes it difficult to eat and breath at times. I also get indigestion that at times seems to be linked. Tried all sorts of medicines /inhalers but still no improvement. Really does affect my life, although being chronic not concerned that it is very serious.

Hello,
Welcome to health care magic,

The symptoms of excessive phlegm that you described are suggestive of upper respiratory tract infection which could be due to bacterial or viral infection.

Your indigestion could be due to acute gastritis or or inflammatory bowel disease or parasitic infestation but should be evaluated further by relevant tests to confirm the underlying cause.

So,you should undergo certain blood investigations with urine and stool examination for R/M and ova or ultrasound of abdomen or gastro-intestinal endoscopy since your are suffering from this problem since long time.

You might have your pharynx inflamed by this kind infection and will require below treatment.

1) You should take pain killers and antihistamines available over the counter.

2) Antibiotics (levofloxacin or azithromycin) could be helpful but you will need doctor's prescription for that.

3) Take steam inhalation (no need to add vicks or anything to the water, plain steam is better).

4) Blow your nose and bring out the mucous.

5) Warm water gargling is also necessary.

I hope you will get better in 7 to 10 days and in case not or if symptoms worsen, visit an ENT specialist who will examine you thoroughly and start appropriate treatment.

Regards,
I find this answer helpful
