What Causes Excessive Flatulence And Bowel Incontinence While On Colchicine?
I started taking Colchicine approximately 1 1/2 weeks ago. A few days later my doctor switched me to Mitgare because insurance company was too expensive. Since taking these drugs I have developed severe symptoms of foul smelling flatulence and the inability to fully hold my bowels with they passage of this gas. I did not have these symptoms prior to taking these drugs. I am currently taking two capsules a day. Has anyone else had this problem and what do you suggest?
The very common side effects of Colchicine is gut problems including nauseavomiting and diarrhea. This is quite common with this drug .So you are right, your problems seem to be because of the drugs.
Many times we switch the drug to other like we can use painkillers like NSAIDs in such circumstances. So you should talk to your doctor, as he may advise you a better alternative.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman,
General & Family Physician
