What Causes Excessive Burping Along With Abdominal Pain?

after i eat, i keep needing to burp, but when i do, i can feel liquid in my throat, just above my collarbone, and it's quite warm. it feels like a lump in my throat, but it's quite low down. I also get burning pains in my upper abdomen, and when i touch the area, it prickles. I went to the doctors, and i was told to take gaviscon for 2 weeks, which i have done, but i am still getting the same symptoms. Do you have any idea what this could be?

Hello,

I think you may be suffering from gastritis with gastroesophageal reflux disease. Swallowing of air during eating or drinking also may cause belching. Other possibilities are dyspepsia or peptic ulcer disease or irritable bowel syndrome etcetera.

Avoid spicy food, alcohol, and smoking. Use tablet Nexium before breakfast for one week. Head-end elevation during sleep, and avoid heavy meal at night. If symptoms do not improve, please consult your gastroenterologist; he/she will do upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
