What Causes Enlarged Spleen?

Hi, My daughter age 4o with elevated bilirubin (all other LFTs normal & no jaundice or abdominal pain) had ultrasound with inflamed spleen noted. She has HTN, on several meds to control, on blood thinner post stent for non STEMI last year. Her physician will wait for 3 months to repeat ultrasound. Where can I obtain some evidence based reading on this topic (I am RN faculty)? Thank you

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

It is necessary checking iron plasma levels for hemocromatosis. Other tests to consider would be Hemoglobin electrophoresis.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
