What Causes Elevated Pulse Rate While On Blood Pressure Medication?
My husbands pulse has been rapid all day. He takes blood pressure medication but has not been diagnosed with any heart disease. What could be the cause? He was not feeling well as if he had some virus, but noticed his pulse has been fast. I jut checked and I counted 60 beats in 22 seconds. Took his BP and pulse was between 145 and 160 and BP was 140/105 . Could this just be due to a virus?
Which blood pressure medication he is on?? Elevated heart rate may be due to anxiety or excessive intake of alcohol or caffeinated drinks. Other possibilities like anemia or hyperhyroidism or beri-beri, etc.
Avoid salt intake, avoid caffeinated drinks and alcohol. He may use beta blockers as a antihypertensive medication to control blood pressure and heart rate. Get it done ECG, chest X-ray, thyroid profile and hemoglobin status then consult your physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
