What Causes Elevated Liver Enzymes Along With Abdominal Pain And Nausea?

Recently I have been admitted to the hospital for severe pain and nausea. My LFTs were elevated 14x the upper normal limit. Multiple tests have been done, all coming back negative. Levels have returned to normal, pain alleviated but still remained. It s back now along with the nausea but LFTs are normal. Within the last week I have noticed that both of my eyes are black. Any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If you are a regular consumer of alcohol then it can be alcoholic liver disease. If you are not a regular consumer of alcohol it can be cholecystitis that is gall stones and infection of gall bladder. Even after the LFTs come back to normal but still the nausea will persist for some time due to the past liver damage and inefficiency of liver to secrete digestive enzymes there by leading to indigestion.

Kindly follow-up with your doctor. Take lot of fluids. Avoid oily and high fatty food. Take medicines regularly as prescribed by your doctor. You might be prescribed tab Liv 52 which is very effective for damaged liver. Abstain completely from alcohol.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sanjay Kini
