What Causes Elevated Liver Enzymes After A Bladder Removal Surgery?

Hello doctor, my mother is 62 years old.. she had gall bladder removal through key hole surgery. Her SGOT and SGPT were high post surgery - 614 & 846 respectively. It came down to 333 and 738 on next day without taking any medicine but we are still worried..Kindly advise.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

This is serious value of SGOT and SGPT and this indicates significant damge of liver or gallbladder ducts. Since there was recent surgery, the most obvious cause is surgical complications. It looks to me like cholangitis or liver damage or common bile duct stone.
This requires serious approach and tests such as ERCP or MrI biligraphy since this is the only way to verify biliary tree injury. In most cases another surgery is required but sometimes antibiotics may be sufficient for treatment if findings are lowering.
As home treatment, typically, the patient is recommended dietary restriction table with fatty foods, enzyme preparations, antispasmodics, sometimes oral ursodeoxycholic acid can alleviate the condition., but these tests that i have mentioned should be done first to rule out serious issues.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
