What Causes Elevated Liver Enzyme Levels While On Paxil?

I had elevated liver enzymes in recent blood work. My doctor believes this is due to my weight gain. I rarely drink alcohol, but I have become over weight in the past year. I m scheduled for test again in 6 weeks to see if the levels return to normal. I take 20mg of Paxil a day for anxiety and I m wondering if that medication could also be the cause of the elevated enzymes and if I m in any danger continuing taking this medication. Also is this true that gaining weight over a years time will cause this? 39yr Male 6 2 248lbs.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Paxil can cause this but it is a very rare observation. If you could report a series of test and mention when you started paxil, then I can return to tell whether there is a likely relationship or not. Yes, fatty liver disease can also cause this.

Keep me posted. I wish you well and hope to hear back from you.
