What Causes Elevated Level Of GGT?

Just got back my yearly lab work results from a routine physical, and it shows a slightly elevated GGT value of 95 (actually, when I look back at last year s results, GGT was 100, so it s not changed much). I m 62 years old, 6 tall, 168 pounds, in relatively good health. Other lab tests such as ALT (37), AST (36), Alkaline Phos (68), Bilirubin (1.1), and Amylase (23) are all in normal range, as are cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose, and A1c. I m not experiencing any sort of digestive symptoms (no heartburn, indigestion, stomach pains, etc).

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
GGT is an enzyme which is a marker for chronic alcoholism.
It's level is elevated if you consume alcohol in excess for a long duration of time.
Kindly quit or limit intake of alcohol, if you are habituated to.
Gradually, your GGT levels should drop down to within normal limits.
Hope the information provided helps.
Best wishes.
Regards,
Dr.Ashakiran.S.,
