What Causes Elevated Creatinine Levels After A Surgery?

My father recently underwent a surgery and has been taking many antibiotics post d operation. His creatin levels were normal at 0.8 until day before but when we tested it today it was 3. Our doctor has stopped the antibiotics now. Will the creatin level become normal in a couple of days?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Several antibiotics have been known to cause kidney dysfunction. If the antibiotic your father has been taking is the likely cause of increased creatinine, then it should return back to normal once the antibiotic is discontinued. However, it is difficult to give you a definite answer now until I know about the medications he is on, any intra/post-operative complications and other relevant histories.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal
