What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure Levels?

Yes, thank you. On my last checkup with my surgeon my blood pressure was measured as being VERY high in the lab session before I talked with my surgeon. Things had been going very well -- I check my blood pressure very methodically and record every measure with notes if anything seems out of line. In this case the pre-check in the lab (echo cardiogram) registered my BP at 180/??. This was probably the highest BP measurement I ve ever had (if it was a real measure -- the circumstance were unusual). There s a reason My BP had jumped in the lab but I just said that couldn t have been a valid BP of mine. Never the less, my surgeon doubled the dosage of the medication I was taking and added a statin . . .about a week later my right kidney started hurting (I thought I had strained a back muscle). Two days later my left kidney started hurting, and . . . prior to this, my left eye developed a problem. Filled with blood and a few days later I had a huge blur in my left eye. I stopped taking the meds and went to a Retina Specialist. I stopped all medication on June 14th, the day after my left kidney started hurting. All kidney pain stopped within a week. I continue to monitor my BP and record each measure along with any issues. At this time my BP is very normal -- averaging about 127/85 .. about 150 measures over a week ... with standard deviation and Pulse pressure averages. PP runs ~ 44. There s more to the tale, but I m wondering . . . is this is common? I ve never taken medication (other than aspirin or Ibuprofen ) unless it was an antibiotic or for some temporary ailment. Any thoughts? Im trying hard to stay healthy . . . so far. Thanks, William K. Spence, Ph.D (HDCS) WKSpence@ Spenc.com BTW . . . I m 79 ... and I work at staying healthy Leving my desk for a few minutes . .. .

Hi,

If your blood pressure fluctuated then there is a chance that vein of the eye gets occluded and back pressure causes it to burst . Did the Retina specialist advise any laser or injection. Blood pressure is the most common disorder for this vein occlusion so you have to control it. It takes a while dear to adjust to the drug and to find out what the perfect dose is for you but be patient it will work out.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
