What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure Levels?

i was diagnosed with high blood pressure last Friday 153/99. i was surprised as I have always had great levels, i exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet (58 yrs old female). Doctor put me on Maxzide 25 mg. and told me to check my BP twice a week. Today I checked and it is up to 166/99 which has me worried. :( It is Friday evening....should I be worried and call my Dr?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for the query I undeestand your concern.
Blood pressure medicine needs at least 5-7 days to affect blood pressure.Again the final effective dose of medicine tohave optimum effect needs to be adjusted by fequent readings.
Upper level of blood pressure (systolic) readiing is liable to rise with psychological stress. I feel that is the cause of mild rise in 2nd reading. You need to consult the doctor earlier if both the figures of BP reading are raised .
Please wait patienly for a week to have effect of medicine.Have confidence In your doctor & medicine. Be composed & positive.
Thanks.
