What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure Levels?

My husband is 57 years old, had a kidney transplant in 2006 and is doing well, as far as the kidneys are concerned. He goes to Transplant clinic on regular basis. The last few days he has been having issues with his blood pressure being high often. 160/85-90 range. He takes BP meds (Lisinopril, Hydralazine, Motoprolol, Clonodine and Minoxidil) 3 x day, (6:00am, 2:00pm and 9:00pm) and it usually comes down after he takes meds, but gets high again before he takes next dose. He also has trouble breathing when he lays down. He says any little bit of activity makes him short of breath. If this is not something you are comfortable giving info on via email, please tell me what type of doctor I need to make an appt with. He has an appt with transplant clinic on 4/24, but I would like for him to schedule an appt before then with the correct type of doctor. He doesn t have a GP. He also takes (Levimir flex pen) insulin and Glipizide tablet for diabetes, which is brought on by some of the meds he takes for transplant. (Myfortic, Prograf, and Prednisone) He also takes Crestor for high cholesterol, and Magnesium Oxide.
