Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure Along With Whooshing Sound In Ears?
I have been running BP of around 160/116 pulse 90 s off and on ( more on than off) for about 2 months. In the past 2-3 wks it s accompanied by dull chest pain center to right, neck and head pain and whooshing in my ears. My Dr. Sent out metoprolol which slightly lowers it a bit, but only for a bit. I m afraid I m just being silly worrying about it. I m 56 female, overweight. Should I be concerned. It s scaring me but don t want to look stupid, getting all alarmed.
I can understand your concern and believe me its not at all stupid. I will try to help you in the best way i can.
The symptoms you are describing ie. Hypertension alongwith whoosh sound in ears synchronous with the pulse is suggestive of Chronic Intracranial Hypertension.
It is a condition in which the presuure inside our brain increases due to various reasons which may include thhings from drug effects to AV malformations inside the brain or any mass lesion in the brain.
Nothing to be scared of. Just consult your neurologist who would evaluate you for it by some scans and blood tests and may even a carotid doppler.
I suggest you get yourself checked to remove the shreds of doubt.
Hope it helps.
Regards Dr Manish JHa
