What Causes Ear Ache And Jaw Pain While On Amoxicillin?

I was diagnosed with swimmers ear 2 weeks ago after an ear ache and jaw pain wouldn t go away after two weeks. One week ago, after taking naproxen and doing ear drops for a week, I went back to the nurse because there was no improvement. I then got diagnosed with a double middle ear infection and had swollen glands. It s not been a week and a half since then and my ear and jaw are still hurting really badly. I m taking amoxicillin but there s no improvement. What should I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Topical antibiotic ear drops with systemic antibiotics are essential for treating otitis externa. Since you are having no relief you may not have otitis the cause may be somewhere in the oral cavity or jaw. You should get done an examination oral cavity and oropharynx.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Syed Tehmid,
