What Causes Dull Pain Under The Left Shoulder Blade?

Hello ! I have a dull ache in my back by my left shoulder blade. Comes & goes all day today. Hurts a bit when I take a deep breathe. when I take a deep breathe, then it also hurts in the front of my chest - inside. Should I take some Tums ?? Thank you Nan I will not be paying..but thank you anyway

Hi, If I were your treating doctor for this case of dull pain under the left shoulder blade, which hurts you with deep breathing. I would come up with these two possibilities, these include:

The first possibility could be muscle pain. It could be due to any trauma to your body. This kind of pain decreases with change in position. You may use pain killer like ibuprofen twice daily. It may resolve in couple of days.

The second possibility is lung infection
This kind of pain with deep breathing could be due to irritation to the layers around lungs. Which could be due to infection in the lung. To rule out this if you have any shortness of breath or cough for long time, it is good to under go chest X ray, sputum culture and get the antibiotics from your doctor. It may resolve in a week or two.
