What Causes Dryness In Hands Of A Colorectal Cancer Patient?

My husband has colorectal cancer (most removed except for a piece connected to a blood vessel--too dangerous to remove) He also has small nodules in the lung and liver. He is now taking Xeloda, on for 2 weeks and off for one week. He ll go for another PET Scan this Friday. My husband is 85. So far(after 3 cycles) he s handling it quite well--no real side effects(a little dryness on his hands) At his age, do you think his body can take all this medication for a long period of time?

Hello,

Xeloda (Capecitabine) may cause some dryness of hand. Drink plenty of fluids unless directed otherwise.

5-FU remains the backbone of treatment of colorectal cancer and oral form of capecitabine (Xeloda) has similar efficacy as parenteral 5-FU.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
