What Causes Dry Mouth After Taking High Amlodipine Dosage?

soon after doubling my amlodipine dose to 10mg I got a dry mouth with very salty taste all the time, lasting about 3-4 wks. I decreased the dose to my usual 5mg for a wk: bp went back up and no change in mouth condition. I also stopped my teeth whitening treatments, but still same after about a week. good health otherwise. My dentist says no gingivitis or infection source, and salivary glands secreting properly. Any ideas? Thank you. ps sorry to bother you, I am a physician in a teaching hospital and don t need to pay for friendly opinions---I did not know there would be a fee.

Hi, a pleasure replying to your query. Since amlodipine is a vaso dilator I do not think it directly caused dryness and salty taste in the mouth. More likely it was due to the gastric irritation of higher dose leading to water brash that is persisting even after reducing dose back. Regards
