Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have built up wax in both ears with ear infection diagnosed by nurse practioner 6 days ago in the right ear. I take 10 mg of Pepcid twice a day and am taking 500 mugs of amoxicillin twice per day. My ears feel better but am suffering from very dry cough at night. My upper left back is starting to hurt from coughing. It helps to sleep sitting up. I have acid reflux and hiatal hernia. What is causing the dryness. Should i stop taking the Pepcid?? Thank you
I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.
I am happy to know you are getting better with ear infection. The dry coughing you are getting, taking into account your personal history of acid reflux, it is caused by acid reflux. You should not stop pepcid, perhaps you need to increase the dose.
I advise to add antacid after meal and an OTC proton pump inhibitor. Be careful with food you consume: - avoid oily, fried, spicy food - have small and frequent meals - do not lay down immediately after eating - go to bed at least 4 hours after having your dinner
Wish fast recovery.
