What Causes Dizziness Followed By Loud Pop In Ear?

Yes. My mother was finishing her dinner and heard a loud pop in here ear. She then became very dizzy. we called 911 and she is on her way to the ER. She has, in the past, had Vertigo. I have heard that a loud popping in your ear could be the onset of a stroke. Your advice would be greatly appreciated Dr. Thank you, Tom

Hi Dear,

welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . The symptoms you mention in query are pointing towards a condition known as meniere's disease , which is a disorder of middle ear . In this disorder person suffer from spontaneous vertigo ,dizziness and hearing loss . This disorder is a chronic disease which can be minimize with lifestyle changes .

It good that your mother already called doctor . Doctor may order audiometery test , electronystagmography (for balance) , rotary chair test and posturography to find out exact cause and to rule out cause like stroke. Doctor may prescribe antiemetic drugs to help controlling vertigo and nausea .

He/she may also prescribe diuretics like frusamide to relive the extra fluid from inner ear , antibiotics if there is inner ear infection and recommend hearing aid . Sugical procedure like labyrithecotomy will also be options if other methods do not work.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
