What Causes Dizziness, Dry Heaves, Cold Sweats, Fatigue And Low Body Temperature?

Hello, I am calling about my husband who is 68. He has a history of having headaches and over the past 10 years of being anemic. He takes iron pills once a day(28mg), exercises, eats well, and I think is great shape. Two years ago, He had lyme but with an antibiotic got better. We retired two years ago and his activity level increased because of the extra time. Tom has lost 20 lbs. over the past 2 years because of the lyme and the extra activity. Both of us maintain our weight (168 lbs. for Tom) by just having a small lunch of fruit or skipping lunch. Now for the past three summers, he has had episodes of dizziness with dry heaves, cold sweats, fatigue, and low body temperature. He has to stay in bed for a good 24 hours before he feels relief from these symptoms. The frequency of the attacks which come on very suddenly without warning has been about once a year during the summer. After one, we went to his doctor who thought it might be a stroke. He told Tom to get to the hospital quick. The ER doctor figured it wasn t a stroke but didn t come up with anything conclusive. Last year, Tom rode it out in bed and went for his annual check-up 2 days later. The blood work and exam showed he was in perfect health. Even so, these episodes continue to happen. Last night, while we were relaxing in the living room, Tom had the same thing happen. This morning after sleeping well, he still had the same symptoms. What do you think? Hopefully, this is not leading into something really bad. Tom is still sleeping. Yours Truly Carol

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the sudden onset of dizziness, dry hives, cold sweat and low body temperature indicate possible issue with autonomic nervous system most likely. There can be various reasons for such development, the common one being auto immune phenomenon (which co relates with the previous history of Lyme disease). He must be evaluated with an expert neurologist in this regard to find further solution in this aspect.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
