What Causes Dizziness And Slurred Speech?

Sister 65 yrs old got dizzy, fell several times during last two days. Quick onset, passes after a few minutes, slurred words, face looked droopy. Is currently in hospital. Have determined no stroke, although did not use contrast. Pulmonary tests negative. After many tests, medical conclusion is dehydration. Just doesn t sound right to me.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I think it's possible that the patient is suffering metabolic encephalopathy. In this condition, the neurological symptoms can develop while the scans remain normal. Therefore, I feel that your doctor is correct. A gradual correction of hydration and metabolites will help her recover.

I have tried to make it as simple as possible. Feel free to contact us for further information.

Best wishes.
