What Causes Dizziness And Elevated BP After Taking Steroid Shots And Ibuprofen?

Why is it that drugs I take tend to make me feel very light headed and my BP goes up, such as steroid shots for inflammation and Ibuprofen gel, even Bio Freeze? It s as though I am overly sensitive. Now I am afraid to get an injection for the arthritis inflammation on the top of my foot. Will such an injection cause me to have such devastating results? Do you think my metabolism has something to do with this problem. Before this year, I was able to use such drugs without incident.

Hi,

Both steroids and Ibuprofen can off set control of BP; better to avoid NSAIDs for relief of pain in patient with hypertension. Acetaminophen (Paracetamol) and or Tramadol is better alternative in such cases.

Hydrocortisone intra-articular also has potential to cause hypertension. Intra-articular Triamcinolone administration as short-term adjunctive therapy in osteoarthritis is generally preferred.
