What Causes Dizziness And Disorientation Followed By Sudden Stuttering?

I have a friend who is about 35 and recently started stuttering badly. He had a moment of dizziness and disorientation recently and then began stuttering shortly afterward. He s waiting to see a neurologist but I thought I d ask. He s otherwise healthy.

New onset stuttering, as you have mentioned is likely to be dysarthria (difficulty in articulation of speech). It can be caused by many diseases affecting the brain, brain stem and cranial nerves. In your friend, it is most likely to be due to reduced blood supply to the brain (ischemia or infarct). He definitely requires neurologic evaluation and an MRI brain to diagnose the cause with certainty.
