What Causes Discomfort In The Upper Abdomen And And Lower Ribs?

I fell on the stairs 5 weeks ago and broke the ribs over my left kidney, the following day I woke up with intense stomach pain and was extremely constipated. When I was able to go I noticed reddish flesh looking chunks in my stool so I used the blood test part of a urine stick on those chunks and it came back positive for blood. I went to my gp and explained what had happened and he said that the stomach pain was nothing to do with my ribs and that it was probably gastroenteritis and not to worry about the chunks in my stool and sent me away with a prescription for lansoprozole and laxido for constipation. Its been 5 weeks since the fall my ribs are fine but I still have these chunks in my stool which are testing positive for blood along with pain in the top centre part of my abdomen. For approximately the last year I have been getting discomfort around my upper right abdomen just up from my lower ribs. I had a good feel around the area and it feels like there is a lump there.

Hi,

Since you have history of fall, possibility of intestinal injury due to fall is more likely. Constant pain, feeling of lump, blood in stool etc are characteristic features of intestinal injury.

So better to consult gastroenterologist and get done clinical examination and ultrasound and CT scan of abdomen. If there is major injury then you may need surgery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
