What Causes Discomfort In The Lower Abdomen Before Periods?

Hi, I am about 10 days post ovulation and I have been getting these twinges that last for a minute or two around the area of my ovaries. It swops between sides and sometimes feels more central. It does not last all day, it comes and goes. My menstruation is due in 6 days. We have been trying to conceive our first child but when I read other ladies experiences of implantation, its described as being near the navel. What could this be?
