Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Discomfort In The Chest While Having Oily Foods?
I m a 60 yr old female who weighs 175lbs. Sometimes, while I m eating a greasy food, I will feel discomfort around my heart (discomfort is never on the right side of my chest.) As soon as I stop eating, it goes away. (I try to avoid fried foods.) Could this be heartburn?
Discomfort related to eating greasy food can be due to stomach problems as greasy food increase the time the food takes to leave the stomach, or the gallbladder as it is the place where enzymes that break greasy food are stored and it shrinks a lot in these times with the risk of stones being trapped in the process. So the two main causes to consider is stomach and gallbladder. An ultrasound of the abdomen would rule out the gallbladder stones as the cause of the symptoms and taking omeprazole 20 mg 2 pills a day would take care of the stomach as the cause of the symptoms.
On the other hand because the pain is in the heart area it might be good to have a visit with the doctor to rule out heart problems as well.
I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care.
Kind regards, Antoneta Zotaj,General & Family Physician
