What Causes Discomfort In Chest While Running?

I've been an avid runner for over 20 years. Recently during my runs, I feel some discomfort in my chest and it makes me want to stop and walk for a bit before I continue. This usually occurs within the first mile or so. Once I stop, I get immediate relief and can generally resume my run. There have been some recent occasions where I've had to stop multiple times during the course of a run.

Hello,
Thanks for your query.
The most likely reason for your symptoms is exercise-induced asthma. Asthma or any kind of reactive airways can cause a discomfort, tightness or burning in the chest with exertion/exercise. I suggest you see your doctor so you can discuss this and have your chest examined for wheeze. You may benefit from an inhaler either regularly or as and when needed.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
