What Causes Discolored Patches On The Face Of A Child?

My grand daughter is getting discoloration patches on her face. They are around her mouth and on her cheeks. She is eight years old. Is she lacking vitamins? if so, what is she needing. I give her multivitamins and gel gummies for nails, hair, and skin with biotin.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

What is the colour and shape of the lesions? It is quite common for children to have few round or oval white/hypo-pigmented lesions on face. This is called Pityriasis alba, and is not actually related to any vitamin deficiency. These lesions will disappear its own in 6-8 months. Sometimes, mildly potent steroid creams are given. Also, it is good to use a moisturising cream regularly if she is having dry skin.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
