What Causes Discoloration In Skin After Using Azelaic Acid Cream?

I have been on isotretinoin since last one and half month. There is up and down in my skin conditions. I take 20mg in morning and 20mg at bedtime with food. Along with that I use Deriva CMS gel and azelaic acid 10% cream. But I m getting discolouration of my skin where I apply Azelaic acid cream. What can I do please suggest? Thank you.

Hi,

You have not mentioned the disease or condition for which you have been taking the above medicine or whether they are prescribed by a dermatologist or not. You might be experiencing a side effect of applying Adelaide acid cream. If you have darker skin color, azelaic acid might cause some discoloration. Moreover use of medicated ointments often cause a condition called ‘purging’ which is skin breakouts etc., which may last for initial few weeks. I would advise to consult your dermatologist as soon as possible.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
