What Causes Difficulty To Swallow Liquid Food By An Infant?

My friend s 7 month old baby shakes quite a bit when concentrating, even his hands. He cannot swallow solids properly, especially if it is a bit runny and dad has to thicken the food to enable him to swallow. It s almost like he has to use his tougue to push it to the back of his mouth. His mom smoked and drank when pregnant and whilst breastfeeding. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

Infants need to get used to different foods, and at times its the posture, their diet, etc; that can influence this. But liquids need to be fed in a certain manner, and although I do not see any major cause for concern I would still recommend reporting to a paediatrician who would try and feed the child himself/herself and then observe to see if there is anything abnormal.

Best wishes.
