What Causes Difficulty Sleeping?

hello, My husband has been having trouble sleeping. He has been see an acupuncturist and is now complaining about some neck pain. On a scale of 1-10 he said 15. He finally fell asleep at 5:30 this morning and is now waking up (5:00pm) While sitting at the table to eat, he said he wasn t feeling well and all of a sudden his eyes opened as wide as i have ever seen them, he took in what sounded like a last gulp of air and went stiff as a board. I was so pre-occupied, keeping him from falling onto the floor, I couldn t tell what else was wrong. Couldn t get a chance to check pulse or anything. This lasted about 30 seconds. I am presuming he simply passed out. He is now lying on the floor, covered up and resting with eyes half open. Could this be something worse than what i think?
