What Causes Difficulty In Walking Along With Swollen Feet?

I was walking down a flight of stairs in my home this afternoon and when I stepped down with my left foot I felt a sudden ouch as though I had turned or twisted my ankle but I had not. About 45 min later I had to remove my shoe as walking was becoming uncomfortable and the pressure from putting weight on my foot was hurting. The inside front area of my ankle was swelling. I put some ice on my ankle, and the swelling went down some. It is still tight and walking is uncomfortable but I m not in pain. There is no obvious bruising. What do I need to do and what do you think happened? Break or sprain or neither? 57yr old female

Hi,
It seems that you might be having ankle strain due to twisting injury producing pain, swelling on ankle region.
Give complete rest to ankle.
Apply ice pack 2-3 times a day for few days.
If require take ibuprofen as needed for pain.
Ok and take care.
