Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have trouble swallowing food. Most of the time, I have to take a drink to help with getting the food down my throat. I notice it more when I eat bread or peanut butter or steak. I can feel the food getting caught in my throat and I have to take a drink to force it down. Occasionally, I am not able to get the food down and have to spit the drink I just took out. I will then have to try to drink again and force it down. It can take me a few times to get the food down. I am not sure what is causing this but it has been going on for many years. From what I ve read, it sounds like it is dysphagia. Could this be due to me not producing enough saliva? What can I do to help with this problem? What do you think could be causing it?
It could be dysphagia and also it could be due to less saliva production . You need to consult an internal medicine specialist for the same and get upper GI studies done.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Harshita,
