What Causes Difficulty In Swallowing And A Hoarse Voice?

Hi, my name is Rebecca! I am a 38 year old female who has been having some recent health challenges. My main complaint is that for the past year my throat has felt uncomfortable when swallowing (not overly painful), and my voice has gotten hoarse. This has been devastating to me, because I used to be a singer in my spare time most of my life. I have been noticing it getting worse over the past six months. Now I am feeling like any foods or vitamins I eat, don t go down all of the way, or takes a long time to go down. When I swallow, it is a constant uncomfortable feeling. I have had severe acid reflux when I was pregnant, and know what the reflux feels like in your throat and I am not feeling that sensation. However, I seem to be in a constant need to burp. I burp frequently, but sometimes I feel like a have to force myself to (if that makes any sense). Sometimes I have chest pain as well. When taking antacids it helps a little, but not entirely. Also, sometimes it feels like my glands move in my neck and gets stuck. It s painful when this happens. I have just experiencing this just for a couple months and it is not frequent. My whole life I have never had that happen. I had my thyroid checked in April and the said the levels were in normal range, but they did detect some small nodules on my thyroid. They encouraged me to not be concerned. Thyroid does run in my family. My grandmother ended up having hers removed entirely. I am not sure specifics though. Also, I have been losing a lot of hair and extremely fatigued. My joints and muscles ache constantly, I wake up in the morning to stiff fingers. This let s up during the day, but my hands and feet always hurt and sometimes tingle and burn. Not really sure what is going on, but after two years of these symptoms I am getting concerned and desparetly needing answers. Please help me.

Hi,

Welcome to HCM,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

hoarse voice could be due to voice abuse due to acidity and singing.

Thyroid nodule with normal hormone levels in blood, you can ignore.

Tingling, fatigues and muscle aches could be due to nutritional deficiencies ( iron, calcium, folic acid).

you require laryngoscopy to know the exact cause of persistent hoarse voice, blood tests for nutritional deficiencies.

all the best, take care.
