What Causes Diarrhea With Watery Black Stools In A Diabetic Patient?
I have had diarrhea for 10 days with watery black stool. For last 3 days I drink plenty of water and take Kaopectate for my problem. It stil remains. I am a border-line diabetic with a pinched nerve effecting my left leg. I take the following daily Meds: Glipizide 2.5 mg; Atorvastatin 40 mg; Gabapentin 300 mg; and Baby Aspirin 81 mg. All for more than 10 years.
Hi & Welcome. Diarrhea with watery black stools (suggestive of altered blood) seems to be due bleeding stomach ulcer apparently caused by Aspirin. I would advise you to consult your treating physician to use an alternate but a safer medicine like Clopidogrel to prevent the platelet aggregation and thus clot formation required to prevent stroke and ischemic heart disease or to use a proton pump inhibitor along with Aspirin to prevent the peptic ulcer. Diarrhea could be due to autonomic dysfunction which might have been caused by uncontrolled diabetes. Consult your treating physician to check the blood glucose and HbA1c. Hope the suggestion would be useful in preventing black stools.
