What Causes Diarrhea With Gas For The Past 40 Days?

My husband is 52 years old and recently developed constant diarrhea for the past 40 days. Stomach makes loud noises, gasey, no pain, no bloody stools. Blood sugar is Prediabetes, a1c result of a 6. He is currently taking probiotics and metimucil. Colonoscopy showed some inflammation and two small baneign polyps. Changing his diet as a result of the a1c result. Suggestions on what may be going on and how to deal with the diarrhea? Thank you

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your husband have symptoms of diarrhea with gas for the past 40 days, this could be due to stomach flu. Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to many other reasons like electrolyte imbalance, acute gastritis, viral infection or due to food intolerance. Need not to worry. Avoid intake of outside food. I would suggest you to consult general practitioner for proper examination. Doctor will take history and order blood test. Doctor may prescribe antiviral drug like acyclovir for at least 5 days along with anti inflammatory and antipyretic medications. You should avoid intake of outside food. You should take oral rehydrating solution as well. For now do proper rest because rest is important in case of viral infection and apply warm compresses on body.
