What Causes Depression While On Elavil For Trigeminal Neuralgia?

I ve taken Viibryd for 4 years for depression and I was recently prescribed Elavil for trigeminal neuralgia. I don t know what s wrong with me. I m 46 and all of sudden suicidal thoughts keep coming into my head. I even found myself writing notes on who should get my things when I die. Could the recent addition of Elavil 30mg do it to me?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.
I carefully read your question and understand your concern. If you are having suicidal thoughts you will need to say it to your provider as soon as possible; yes, recently having amitriptiline (elavil) might bring in the begining some suicidal thoughts and you need to speak with your provider as soon as possible. You have to understand that it is a side effect of medication and are not your real thoughts and you need urgent need so to be safe.
Hope this is helpful and answers to your question.
