What Causes Delayed Puberty?

Hi, My son is 13. He is 5 ft 8 tall and weighs approx 149 pounds. His shoe size is still UK 6/US 7 so I guess it means his growth spurt has not started yet. I am 5 ft 8 and my husband is 6 ft 4. The problem is, I do not think his puberty has kicked in yet. The testicle sack seems to have enlarged and is hanging. I have not inspected the testicles up close but from some distance they do not seem much bigger (he did not have a long penis as a child to start with). Also, he does not have any pubic hear but there are some sparse light hairs under the arms. I have read that it is not the order things should come.. His voice has also not broken. And. I know that men do not get cellulitis, but I think he has some. If he crouches when he sits, I can see some dimples on his belly and if I squeeze his thigh or buttocks, the bumps appear. Long story short: Do I have a reason to suspect a chromosome disorder and get him tested? I would not like to make him concerned by dragging him to tests in vain.

Thanks for consulting. I have carefully worked through your case, and I can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I assure you not to worry as I will take care all of your medical concerns.

not all boys will attain puberty by 13 yrs. some may take even 15 yrs to attain. so do not worry.

if he has two testis inside his scrotum when he was young then no problem.

just give an year or two he will get puberty.
puberty for boys is hard to find it does not have clear demarcation like girls.

Hope it helps. If you need further, detailed and quick assistance related to any health issues in future, feel free to 'ask me a question' directly from my profile.

Have a wonderful time ahead.

Best Regards!
