What Causes Delay In The Menstrual Cycle While Using Copper IUD?

Hello, My girlfriend typically has her period between the 18th and 22nd of a given month. She is a day late and doesnt feel any signs of it coming on. We are sexually active and she has a copper IUD. I pull out at the end but know that there is still risk during intercourse. I am worried her period is delayed due to stress but dont want to bring it up to her because she will be more stressed. Do you have any advice?

Hi,

A 1-day delay in getting periods should not worry much that she could have conceived. Sometimes, presence of Copper IUD can cause disturbances in menstrual cycle.

You can wait for 5 days to 1 week. Stress could also delay the periods. If there is a delay, kindly take urine pregnancy test along with ultrasound scan of the abdomen.

Kindly consult Obstetrician with the report for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.
