My ALT blood test went up to 99 so doctor took me off methotrexate, I also stopped alcohol altogether. In two weeks ALT back to 28. Take 21mg a week for RA. Not sure now if t was methotrexate or alcohol or both. Was having about 15 units of alcohol a week.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It's difficult to detect the underlying cause for elevated liver enzymes.

Most probably it could be due to alcohol.

Now your SGPT came within the limit, so no need to worry.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami, General & Family Physician
