What Causes Dark Stool With Bit Of Blood?

My daughter is 7 and tonight she had a bowel movement that left quite a bit of blood in the toilet. I also saw stringy blood on the stool. Stool is dark. She has no pain and we have no insurance. Besides taking her in to the local doctor after the holiday weekend is there anything you can suggest or educate me on?

Hello!

Thank you for trusting HCM!

Dear blood in stool in child may be due to:

1) Upper GI bleed

2) Ulcerative colitis

3) Anal fissures

4) Dysentry

5) Irritable bowel syndrome.

Please consult your pediatrician until examination is done properly. It is difficult to say what it causative. He/she will examine and treat you accordingly.

Take care
