What Causes Dark Hands In Cold Weather In A Diabetic Patient?

My type 2 diabetic friend s hands have temporarily turned dark when it was cold outside. It seems to come and go. He is 62 and does take medicine. He does see a doctor, but is afraid to report this to him. He does drink. I would say too much but due to his mental state of mind at this time I don t know if he is willing to stop. What is the cause of the darkening hand situation.

hi, welcome to health care magic.
Darkening of hands especially palm while exposure to cold is called raynauds phenomenon
This happens usually in patients with connective tissue diseases, extreme hypersensitivity to cold, chronic smokers and in some patients with cancers.
I would recommend him to stop alcohol and consultant a physician for proper evaluation before any complications sets in
all the best
