What Causes Dark Circles Under The Eyes And Stomach Upset In A Child?

Our 4 year old son has had dark circles under his eyes and has been complaining of an upset stomach. He has vomited a couple of times in the past 2-3 days. He usually likes playing outside and we have a hard time keeping him inside during the hottest part of the day, but the past couple of days he hasn t wanted to go outside much at all. He hasn t been running a fever.

Hi,

Noted the history about your 4 year old son who has developed dark circles around eyes and has stomach upset and does not want to go outside for playing. The most common causes of the symptoms can be one or more of the following reasons.

Stomach upset can be due to:
gastroenteritis
appendicitis
colitis
intolerance to foods and beverages
Lymph node mass
worm infestation

This can be diagnosed by the following ways:
Clinical evaluation by a Pediatric Surgeon.
Ultrasonography of whole abdomen helps to find out the cause and can be confirmed or ruled out by a CT scan of abdomen.
Tests of stool, blood and urine help further.

Once a proper diagnosis is made then the treatment can be guided and curative. The dark circles around eye can be due to anemia, dehydration, losing fat and so on can be treated as per the cause found although there is no specific treatment for such things.
