What Causes Crunching Sound While Moving The Shoulders?

Hi. Whenever I move my shoulders they seem to make a crunching noise and this can occur even when doing something like sponging a surface or stretching. My left shoulder seems like it is popping into place, when I lift it above my head (it doesn t go properly straight until it pops ) but I have not damaged either of them. Sometimes my ribs on the left side also make this crunching noise. What is the cause of this and what can be done to prevent this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It may be due to ligament movement over bone.

There is no need for any active management.

In case of pain you may require MRI shoulder after orthopedic surgeon consultation.

For pain you can take tablet acetaminophen.

Continue physical therapy.

Hope I have answered your query...
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
