What Causes Coughing Up Of Thick Phlegm After Choking On Food?
I am a 30-year-old male, who is 5 11 and 160 lbs. About an hour ago I began to choke on a piece of food. I was able to clear the airway fairly quickly, but I have been coughing up a thick, clear fluid since it happened. Is this normal? Is there anything I should do about it? Thank you.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I have read your description and understand your concern. Coughing up thick phlegm after choking by a piece of food can be considered as normal. It is a reflex act, which will help to throw away the secretions accumulated inside when the food was chocked. Kindly do salt water gargling with warm water and take medicated lozenges to feel better. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best. Regards, Dr. Ashakiran.S., MBBS., MD.
