What Causes Coughing Up Of Blood And Chest Pain Upon Breathing?

My son dove off a high cliff and landed on his back in the water. When he got out he was coughing up blood. This happened an hour ago. He says it hurts when he breath deeply but he is not coughing up any more blood. We think he needs to go to an emergicare now

I agree with you, he should be seen as soon as possible.

The fact that he coughed up blood indicates that it was in his airways and this is likely due to trauma in the lungs.
The pain on inspiration can also occur with lung trauma.

In the vast majority of persons , symptoms and signs improve on treatment with no complications but he needs to be seen and assessed and treated.
