What Causes Constant Numbness And Pain On The Tongue?

I have had numbness and slight pain on the left side of my tongue. I now also have scratchy throat with cough and occasional congestion. I have had an MRI of my head recently with no findings, but my tongue is quite bothersome and nothing really relieves the discomfort. It is not really painful, it is more uncomfortable and annoying, but has been going on since late March. I have an appointment with an oral surgeon and have been seen by an ENT (ordered the MRI) and by my dentist who referred me to the oral surgeon, but who says my mouth looks fine. I also have Hashimoto s Disease and I am concerned that maybe there is a connection. What questions should I be asking the oral surgeon?

Hi,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.com.

I had gone through your question I can understand your concern.

You need to provide proper history that how much time before it started?
Was it sudden or it happen progressively?
Is there any numbness related to your lip and nose on same side?
Was there any traumatic injury when it started?

If you have any impacted tooth or grossly decayed tooth on same side.
Are you a mouth breather?

These are the questions you need to provide proper history to your doctor.

Transient nerve injury heals of its own within the six months of period.
You need to take vitamin B complex too daily for a month to two also.

Hope my answer will help you and visit us back if you have any questions further to answered.
