What Causes Confusion, Hallucinations And Aggressive Behavior While On Sinemet?

Father, 80 years old with Parkinson x 9 years. First 7 years only on Artane. Started with confusion and hallucinations. Start Sinemet 25/100mg 2 years ago and has done well. Sudden onset of Confusion 2 1/2 weeks ago. No infection. Took off Sinemet and confusion resolved, restarted Sinemet and confusion is back with hallucinations and aggressive behavior mostly toward evening and night. Also on Seroquel 25mg at 2 pm and HS. Presently on no Sinemet last 4 days. Any suggestions? We are working with Internal medicine, not a neurologist. email - YYYY@YYYY .

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history your father seems to be suffering from symptoms suggestive of sinemet induced behavioral changes. A dose reduction of sinemet or an alternate effective but a safer medication for his Parkinson's disease is recommended.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
